[wxqc] Vantage Pro Barometer problems

Lew,
I didn't mean to infer that what Steve stated was incorrect -- I was
just trying to point out that the latest firmware revisions also modify
pressure reports -- my apologies to Steve for my poor wording. He is
certainly right that, "having the latest firmware AND software are both
important in
submitting good pressure data to CWOP".
For my datalogger version (=APRS), the software alone does not fix
reporting altimeter data; it's within a firmware change (item 3 below):
>From Davis link:
<snip>
"WeatherLink for APRS Datalogger Firmware - v 2.02
Firmware version 2.0.2
1. Report 2-minute average wind speed and 10-minute high wind speed
instead of 1-minute average wind speed and 5-minute high wind speed.
2. Modify Daylight Savings to reflect the new 2007 dates. (Requires the
latest console firmware v1.60.)
3. Report altimeter instead of current barometer value."
<snip>
There are several Davis variations with differing implementations of the
changes -- depends on the hardware purchased and software used.

Rex,
Thanks for bringing up the firmware issue. I checked and found my
firmware was dated 12/1/06 although my unit is newer then that and in
fact I had to swap my console mid-year and would have assumed I would
have been given a newer firmware.
I am in the process of updating the firmware as I write this (with
fingers crossed).
I can understand that there are some barometer corrections in the
firmware...mainly ones due to spikes after updating the firmware and
smoothing the barometer value but I didn't see any corrections for
barometer value?
The fact is that Steve mentions software changes and I did find the
optional settings in my WD software so there has to be some validity
to what he is saying. Seems Windy wouldn't have put the options in
the CWOP setup if he didn't think you would need them? I am just
curious how changing them will affect what I am uploading before I
change them.
Thanks to both of you!
Lew
