[wxqc] Davis and Power Outages

Although its true my data will stop going to CWOP if my DSL line goes down,
there are often times that power goes down, but the DSL stays up. I have my
router and DSL modem on power backup, and run my weather software on a
dedicated old laptop. This is enough to run several hours without power.
There have been a number of times where my area has lost power, but my
weather data continued to stream to the CWOP system.

RE: Davis and Power Outage
The Davis VP2 wireless units' console has a battery backup while the
sensors have solar and battery backup allowing it to keep collecting
observatiobs for several hours without commercial power. The Davis
WeatherLink memory module will store data for weeks until you are able
to sync the module with the WeatherLink application on the PC. All and
all, the Davis system is very robust/resistent to commercial power outages.
The trick for most folks is to keep uploading data to NWS is keeping the
PC CPU and cable/DSL modem going on generator or UPS during the power
outage.... that is the weak link in the process!
