[wxqc] Ice prevention on anemometers?

John,
It caught me off guard also. Last year I used a heat lamp to thaw mine
out when the ice froze it up. I mounted it at an angle on the pole so
snow/ice would not build up in it and only plugged it in long enough to thaw
the gauge out. I've wondered about a heat tape, but don't believe that would
work. If anyone else has some ideas I'd like to hear them also.

Subject: [wxqc] Ice prevention on anemometers?
The ice storm today froze up my anemometer for about 5 hours. Has anyone
here devised a system to keep anemometers working during icy conditions?
I have an idea involving manually pumping windshield de-icer fluid from
ground level up onto the anemometer, but that might have a lot of bugs to
work out. Anyone else heard of a solution for this problem? Does anyone
sell an electric anemometer heater, like Davis has for the rain gauge?
thx
John
