Steve,
I'll respond. This time... <g>
But, Gerry said there was a problem and he found it. I was merely
explaining that I suspected a core issue and you may have overlooked
other possibilities, which Gerry confirmed. It's not his fault... stuff breaks.
I just thought it unfair to tell a user on this list that it was 'his' problem.
I didn't expect you to agree with me or other options for that matter.
Yes, according to you, we abandoned support after 6 years of very
reliable service. That makes sense <g>. You wanted to take over
the CWOP's and we gave you the opportunity after years of sly prodding.
We gave you notice and you used it as a soap-box opera.
Now, you think you have the moral right to decide who can post to
this list? Do us a favor... accept responsibility and help find solutions.
The right choice is not forcing choice or opinions on anyone. I'd
suggest having a little more faith in what we both are trying to
accomplish as network service providers.
It's no secret that you don't like Tier 2. So what's new? Tier 2 still
offers support for WX users, including CW's. We still provide service from
40 plus servers that represents a lot of traffic on the APRS-IS.
If anything aprswest.net still handles a majority of all ham WX stations.
I don't hear too many complaints from them.
We were asked not to dump CW's by the people that run the program.
We honored that until a complete transition could take place. We were
told that the CW's would have their own network (which I originally provided).
Their own network away from the APRS-IS. You have denied being the
owner of the Core service, yet you own the domain.
rotate.aprs.net was a big mistake and the only consideration was control.
Everyone knows it has problems... most network guru's agree. So I said
what I believe. Most people I know can handle the truth.
So my question is... what do you do? You run findU and have a firm grip
on providing data to MADIS as long as it gets to findU.
What do I do? I provide an entry point for 2/3's of all traffic seen on the
APRS-IS (Tier 2).
I don't plan on going away too soon <g>. Get used to it! Please don't
flame me on this list... you might hurt someone's feelings. <g>
Phil is the Tier 2 coordinator. He isn't on this list... it's not appropriate for
you to take shots at him.
Dick, KB7ZVA
