[wxqc] Data Lockup

For an additional data point, a satellite link is a very viable option.

I have used a satellite connection (first Hughes, now WildBlue) for my
remote weather and power monitoring http://tinyurl.com/fsn49 and CW0622
since WL first supported FTP, without any issues. I have had hardware
failures (Hughes), but I've never seen an FTP timeout (but it's certainly
possible I missed them). I upload data automatically in about 170 sessions
each and every day, so I think I'd see some problems in several years of
continuous uploads via satellite.

And since your problem still happens with dialup, I really don't think it's
related to satellites.

I had satellite for a time and had to get rid of it due to the latency.
When trying to upload, there is so much delay that the server times out and
hangs Weatherlink (I was using 5.6 at the time).
I had a similar problem with dial-up, but not to the same extent.
