[wxqc] Curious about analysis C2582

The weather QC process is a necessary tool but not infallible, you have to know how to interpret it's results. Your station could be providing accurate data while another nearby station(s) in your area could be in error but close to each other, so the Weather QC process tags your station.

My Davis Vantage Pro2 with fan aspirated shelter has been getting the dreaded big red X for dewpoint since installation. However it's dewpoint readings are within 0.1 deg. F of my back up weather station and also my NWS type sling psychrometer so I just ignore the error.

In my case the local FAA weather observations at Lakeland Linder Airport approximately 5 miles to my WNW have been reporting inaccurately low dewpoint readings for several years. I've attempted to get their error issue resolved but have not been successful. KLAL is a busy airport with numerous private flights and some commercial ones too and home to the very popular Sun N' Fun Flyin air show. However weather observations are taken manually and cease between 11:00 pm-9:00 am.

However in your case the exposure of your weather station could be the problem. The best course of action is to have certified accurate hand held weather instruments on hand to compare too.

  Howdy....

  First post...

Been watching the analysis of my weather station and constantly see that the dewpoint is regularly marked as having a signifcant mean error.

The dewpoint of my station is a calculated value, by the weather station software and is not actually a sensor so there is not really anything to adjust. The baro and temp is normally listed as okay (Green Check), but the dewpoint rarely is.

The station is located in a not so optimal location, in that is is near a block wall which has a paved street on the otherside, so I would expect to see temps slightly higher as a result. But I find it interesting that the other two values are normal green, and the dewpoint is not.

The analysis as I understand them are based on other local stations and looking at some of them, they appear to be way off. Could these be playing a part in the readings being so off for the dew point.

Most notable are two stations which have readings like:

  Station Distance Baro Temp Dewpoint
  CW1832 6.6 miles 164.9 28.2 12.1
  CW2017 10.1 miles 0.0 -4.9 63.1

The following link shows the report as I saw it tonight.

  http://www.tnetweather.com/cwop/cwop-2582-10-9.pdf

Wasn't sure how to provide the info from the report so I took a pdf snapshot of it.

  Interested in comments....

  Thanks.
