I went to the local Wal Mart today and picked up a 100 foot length of 6 wire telephone extension cable with the male plug on one end and the female jack on the other end for $11.99. The included 40 feet of wind vane/anemometer cable is only of the 4 wire type but in any event the 4 wire cable meshed perfectly with the Wal Mart 6 wire cable and all is working okay. I sealed the connections with liquid electric tape so water will never get in. It was less expensive than buying the Davis extension cables.
The wind vane/anemometer is now up at 35 feet atop a push up mast but still right at tree line from west around to north. In 2-3 weeks it will sit atop a 50 foot push up mast via the wireless option so it can be hit by lightning!!!

Subject: Davis Vantage Pro2 Question
Hello To All,
I'm new to the eGroup.
I just purchased a Davis Vantage Pro2 with the optional fan aspirated temperature/humidity shelter. As all know the Pro2 has the integrated sensor suite (ISS) with wind vane/anemometer attached. You can run the included cable of 40 feet between the ISS and anemometer/wind vane unit and add cable extensions of up to 540 feet.
For better wind data accuracy I need to detach the anemometer/wind vane from the ISS and place it at 35 feet up on a mast, further away than the 40 foot included extension cable.
I have a some questions. Is the 40 foot extension cable a regular telephone type cable with male connectors on each end? Also can I buy regular telephone cable extensions with the male RJ-45 male plug on one end and female jack on the other, at Wal Mart, Home Depot, etc to use with the included 40 foot cable to the ISS from the anemometer/wind vane? Or do I have to buy the Davis (overpriced in my opinion) cables? I've heard of some alleged sensitivity and polarity issues with the standard telephone cable extensions.
Next month I'm buying the model #6332 wireless version of the wind vane/anemometer and the cable thing will not be an issue.
