John,
Don't know about weather related distributed computing, but Stanford
University does research into Alzheimer's Disease, Cancer, Huntington's
Diseases, Parkinson's Disease and a lot of other worthy medical uses of your
computer time.
I have some resources which perform tasks for these projects when resources
are available. Weather forecasting is cool, but finding a cure for terrible
afflictions, like Stanford is working on, is awesome.

Subject: [wxqc] Distributed Computing Projects?
Does anyone know a worthwhile distributed computing project going on
for weather forecasting? The server that, among other things, hosts
my weather processing really does little else through much of the
day, and is always on. Does Mesonet or something related have a
project that could use some of my otherwise-wasted MIPS?
