[wxqc] QC reports

In response to my question on the status of the rotatewx concept, I received
this response from Phil Pacier, who manages the tier2 aprs servers,
************************************
The problem is, when a server in the rotate list goes down, you need to
remove that IP address from the list. I did remove Dick's address, but
it can take up to 24 hours for the world's DNS servers to recognize the
change, and possibly longer depending on what the client has the DNS
cache set for. I have been looking for an automatic watchdog to detect
non-resolving IP addresses and remove them from the list, but as far as
I can tell, no such program or device exists. Comments?
************************************
Does anyone know of the existence of an antomatic watchdog program such as
Phil describes?

Steve,
I have sent a message to Dick and Phil, who manage the tier2 servers and
asked if the rotatewx concept was working. A few months ago, they said that
it had been checked out and was working. However, it does not seem to be
working today. I will report back what I hear.

I, too, switched to the rotatewx server and it worked for a couple of hours,
then stopped. I am using VWaprs, so switching back to its automatic option
seems to have fixed the problem. It still tries the Arizona server
occasionally, but if the upload there fails, it automatically tries the next
server in its list.
I would be happy to use the rotatewx servers if the work and are reliable.
What's going on with them and VWaprs?
Steve

Yep... check the CWOP News Page for what is going on:
http://www.wxqa.com/news.html
Anyone using the APRS-IS server "arizona.aprs2.net" to upload reports
needs to edit their CWOP setup to an alternative server. We suggest
using "rotatewx.aprs2.net" which load balances between the available
Tier 2 servers.
