[wxqc] Katabatic Wind Heat Spikes?

That's a fantastic example of the chinook battles that often occur in
the Rockies.
Growing up in Rhode Island about a mile inland from Narragansett Bay, I
experienced a similar setup in the Spring where if ambient winds were
from the west at > 12-15 knots they would be strong enough to counter
the sea breeze. If the speeds were just perfect, an ongoing see-saw
battle would result with hourly temperature fluctuations on the order of
15 to 20F. KPVD (Providence, T.F. Green Airport) is particularly
challenging in these regards for pilots with the airport located a
similar distance inland to my immediate north. If you check the
historical METAR observations, particularly in April/May, you can find
many examples of these events where warmer westerlies would battle with
the late morning/afternoon sea breeze.
Like your events, they are easy to differentiate from poorly sited
instrument sun spikes given the resulting wind shifts/gusts and often
pressure perturbations.
Thanks for sharing!
