Hi All:

MADIS QCMS said I failed on 59 of 96 tries today as compared against the
analysis (see stats below). I typically fail no more than 1 out of 96
obervations submitted on most days (I have a standard sensor siting with a
passive Gill shield).

We had 17 inches of snow Sunday morning and were down to 10 inches by this
morning. Just 10 miles south, this area got about half as much snow which
mostly melted today in the 60F temps that moved in from the southwest
non-snowpack regions from central Virginia. It also turns out that most
stations in my QCMS analysis are to my south in the lower/no snow depth
areas. So while the stations in my analysis reflected the 60F temps, my
station remained in the snow covered area which observed temperatures 6-12F
lower than the analysis.

So will my temperatures were accurate for the "snow chilled" area nearby my
station, my data was QCMS flagged for most temperature reports today because
4 or 5 stations used in my analysis are south of my station in the "warm"
non-snow pack area which caused the analysis to be biased towards these
warmer stations to my south.

Question for Mike: Is there a function that would help the analysis not be
biased towards asymetric station distributions? Today was an extreme
example of how the analysis did not reflect the conditions near my station
due to asymetric distribution of stations in the analysis.

Note that times are in UTC. The values displayed are 'Observed (error)'
The error value is 'analysis - observed'. I.e. if your observed value is
higher
than the computed value, then the error will be negative. You have to pick
out
the reading that is in error. The row with the time of 'Smry' is a daily
summary
and the data is 'mean(standard deviation)' for each observation during that
day.
