This is not all that different from the wind rose on findU, though I  
use two different blues to indicate gust and sustained, and use two  
graphs to show different time periods, rather than to overlay with  
different colors.

To do it the way you indicate, it is necessary to fit a curve to the  
endpoints of my rose, which would be some work, and I'm not sure the  
result would be more understandable than the current one.
