Hi Steve,
I also have the WS2310 and suffer some of the frustrations you are talking about. I do NOT think it is the equipment as some of the others will point out. Dew point is a calculation relating to temperature and humidity. Our 2310's are only rated at humidity between 20 and 95% although mine seems to report a wider range than that using the Weather Display software. In this case, the dew point could be miss-reported if the true humidity is outside one of those ranges. The beef on the 2310 temperature is the plastic cover over the sensing unit. Obviously, it is apparent that heat can be trapped in the cover, skewing the actual thermal readings. I found that, not using the cover, making sure the sensing unit is at 5' off the ground (AGL), making sure there is free air circulation around the sensor and assuring that it is not affected by direct sunlight (or other weather issues) seems to be providing accurate information.
My problems with the analysis at my station seems to be more "micro climate" related and dealing with a MADIS system that can't seem to allow for locations that are affected by unique factors. I have seen weeks of all Green checks and now that the temps are getting warmer, it is showing more red x's on my temps and dp more frequently. I watched it snow for 1/2 hour, sun for 1 hour, in three cycles here in one afternoon last week and the analysis did not show it at all. Spanked my QC and didn't even ask!
I am giving some time to allow the recent changes to my station location (same yard, different structure) to take effect but am not getting any more comfortable about the temps. I know my temps are a few degrees higher than that analyzed but I think my readings are more accurate than the analysis.
My suggestion is to be patient, check your equipment locations against recommendations and don't let them convince you the WS2310 is inferior equipment. I like mine and what it is providing. I think it is, on many occasions, more correct than an analysis that cannot adjust for micro climate idiosyncrasies and uniqueness.
Good luck, hope this helps........
Steve

Subject: [wxqc] QC Check Question
My station is CW5443 and I had a few questions in
regards to the Quality Check Reports.
First I noticed that yesterdays analysis plotted data
did not run to the end of the chart, not sure why?
Second I have a LaCrosse 2310 which I understand may
not always be that accurate for Dew Point & Humidity.
However in reviewing the Quality Check Reports I
sometimes get a red x for the 28 day report, a green
check for the 3 day, a red x for 7 days and a green
check for 14 days. I guess I do not understand how it
can quality check BAD for 7 days and good for 14 days.
Third, how is the analysis compiled? Especially for
the Dew point/Humidity? I look at stations in my area
and there is a hugh difference at times between most
of the stations. Very few seem to read the same,
especially when the humidity is low and when it is
high.
I have read all the information I can find and I still
don't understand these quality checks. Green is good
and red is bad, I guess that is what we all strive
for.
Thanks, Steve
